This vegan caramel sauce has it all: few ingredients (only 3!), takes less than 5 minutes to make, is healthy, and so good you could spoon it out (I actually do).




  1. Put all ingredients into a powerful blender and whisk until well combined.
  2. You can use the caramel sauce directly to make any recipe that uses this type of sauce, to spread on bread or to dip with fruit. We serve it with chopped apple.
  3. The sauce keeps in the fridge in an airtight container for about 4 or 5 days.


  • I have only tried to make the caramel sauce with Medjool dates. If you use other dates such as Deglet Nour, you will need to use twice as many and you may need to soak them in hot water for a while to soften.
  • We use coconut milk, not drink of coconut Coconut milk usually comes in a can, although there are also tetra briks, it is much thicker than coconut milk and also does not usually contain sweeteners or as many additives.
  • I have not tried to prepare this recipe with another vegetable milk, but you may need to add less milk and more almond butter, since coconut milk is denser and has a higher fat content.
  • I haven’t tried the recipe with other nut or seed butters either, but I assume it will work good. Ideally, use a butter that doesn’t have too intense a flavor.
