It’s been a while since I published any jam recipe and I thought that today is a good opportunity to teach you how to make a slightly different jam… Normally we associate jam with fruit, but the truth is that we can prepare jams based on other types of vegetables such as tomato or pumpkin. Today, specifically, I want to teach you how to prepare an onion jam.

Onion jam

  • 500 gr. of sweet onion
  • 250 gr. of brown sugar
  • 100 ml. of water
  1. Peel and quarter the onion.
  2. Put the onion with the sugar and water in a pot over medium-low heat, stirring periodically so that the sugar dissolves well and does not stick.
  3. Once it starts to boil, let it cook for 1 hour.
  4. Once the cooking time has passed, turn off the heat and let the jam cool in the pot. As it cools, the jam will thicken.
  5. While the jam is warming, we will sterilize the jar(s) where we will store the jam. It is important that the bottle is made of glass and with a screw closure. First, we will wash the boat with a dishwasher. Next, we take a pot large enough to fit the pot with the lid. We will place a folded cloth inside the pot and on top we will place the pot and its lid. We fill the pot with water, making sure that the pot is completely full. Put the pot on the fire and let the water boil for 10 minutes. After that time, turn off the heat, remove the pot and the lid with the help of tongs, and let them cool upside down on a clean cloth or kitchen paper.
  6. When the jam no longer burns, fill the pots and close. And we will have our jam ready!
