Today I bring you a very popular recipe in North American and British cuisine, made with grated potato, which is fried and is usually enjoyed for breakfast, although it can be eaten as a side dish or even as a main course.

  • 450 g de patatas (1 libra)
  • 1/2 cucharadita de sal
  • 1/2 cucharadita de ajo en polvo
  • 1/2 cucharadita de cebolla en polvo
  • 1/8 cucharadita de pimienta negra molida
  • Una pizca de cayena en polvo (opcional)
  • 34 cucharadas de aceite de oliva virgen extra

  1. Peel and grate the potatoes using a cheese grater. You can also use a food processor or even julienne them very finely (they work best if you use a grater). While you’re grating them, put them in a bowl of cold water so they don’t brown.
  2. Strain the potatoes. It is very important to remove as much water as possible. You can squeeze them with your hands and then dry them with the help of a kitchen cloth.
  3. Put them in a bowl along with the rest of the ingredients (except the oil) and stir well until they are integrated.
  4. Put the oil in a pan and when it is hot add the potatoes, spreading them out and forming a more or less even layer.
  5. Press them down with the help of a spatula and cook over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes.
  6. Stir again, press down again with the spatula and cook for another 2 minutes. Repeat this step every 2 minutes until the potatoes are golden and crispy (about 4-8 minutes more).
  7. Serve on a paper towel lined plate to absorb the excess oil (optional).
  8. You can eat them right away or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days.

  • Add your favorite spices and herbs or even other vegetables like fresh garlic or onion.
  • I like to use extra virgin olive oil for cooking , but you can use whichever you want.
  • The nutritional information has been calculated with 3 tablespoons of oil.
