Butter Bean Shaak - a Gujarati favorite


  1. 1 can of butter beans
  2. 2 tomatoes, chopped
  3. 1 fresh chili, finely chopped
  4. Less than 1 tbsp oil
  5. 1/2 tsp mustard kernels
  6. 1 tsp caraway
  7. 2 sweet bay leaves
  8. 1 pinch of Asafoetida
  9. Pinch of turmeric powder
  10. Salt
  11. 1 tablespoon teaspoon dried coriander powder
  12. 1 handful of freshly chopped coriander


Heat the oil in a saucepan and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds, then the sweet neem leaves and asafoetida

< p>After the seeds have sautéed Add the tomatoes and chili and cook for a few minutes

Add the butter beans, a pinch of turmeric, the coriander and salt to taste

Cook for a few minutes, then add the chopped coriander

Cook an additional 5 to 7 minutes, then serve with wraps or

We enjoy mini wraps. It can also be eaten with rice or roti.
